God is never late and He never gets in a hurry. Joseph has been so eager to hurry God along. He wants right all the wrongs imposed upon him. But now after a very long wait his day comes. Does he rush madly from his prison cell to Pharaoh’s presence? No, he shaved, changed his clothes, and [then] went to Pharaoh (41: 14).
Joseph has learned to stay in step with God. The Bible says, the one who believes will be unshakable (literally will not hurry) (Is. 28: 16). We need not rush when we serve the God Who inhabits eternity. Time is just another of God’s tools for accomplishing His purpose in our lives. Time serves Him just as all else. [W]ith the Lord one day is like 1,000 years, and 1,000 years like one day. (2Pt. 3: 8). For us God’s plan sometimes seems to run as slow as the proverbial molasses but God is not lathering up in a sweat. He knows not only what to do but when to do it. His timetable is perfect.
For thousands of years our Lord has been perfecting and delivering His people at just the right moment. Will He do less for you? No, He will intervene in your circumstances just when He deems best and not a moment before. Moments wasted trying to incline God to hurry up are just that – wasted moments. Patience is a virtue learned in no other way than in practicing it. To be patient we must be patient.
So be patient. God has a Joseph to exalt, a dream to fulfill, a plan to unfold and a world to save and He knows just when to do it all.
